The Future of Maritime Connectivity – 2025
Over the past three years, we have witnessed the rapid rise of LEO broadband connectivity, particularly through the expansion of Starlink’s mobility services. Maritime service resellers have swiftly deployed Starlink across their customer bases, with uptake reaching historic levels. Remarkably, even non-resellers have approached authorised providers expressing interest in reselling the service. However, this rapid adoption across the commercial maritime sector, combined with the anticipated launch of additional LEO services, has begun to impact profitability across the ecosystem. Early signs of this commercial pressure are emerging throughout the industry. Notable examples include Navarino’s acquisition of Castor Marine earlier this year, and FMC’s takeover of Anuvu’s maritime and energy business in 2024. These developments likely signal the start of a broader wave of consolidation within the sector.
Due to publish this autumn, our seventh edition report will provide a comprehensive analysis of the current and future marketplace for mobile operators, ISPs, maritime service providers, and satellite hardware manufacturers. Featuring market forecasts through to 2034, it will serve as a landmark publication.
