Key Headlines
- As of May 2025, we have recorded over 38,300 vessels using GEO VSAT/LEO, an increase of more than 5,000 vessels since the previous quarter (February 2025). The sample captured an estimated annual revenue of $1.27 billion for GEO VSAT and $745 million for broadband LEO services.
- Notably, we identified over 26,000 vessels using Starlink’s LEO services, and more than 1,000 using Eutelsat OneWeb.
- Based on our sample, we estimate that Starlink, via its direct channel, or through KVH, Navarino, Marlink, and Speedcast amounts to more than 23,000 commercial maritime vessels being served with the LEO broadband service.
- Valour Consultancy believes the offshore energy sector has become one of the largest markets for GEO VSAT services, followed by merchant tankers and ocean cruise ships. For LEO broadband, merchant tankers and container ships remain the top two revenue-generating segments.
- In terms of vessel count within the GEO VSAT segment, the gap between Marlink and Inmarsat Solutions (excluding VARs) remains relatively narrow, with KVH maintaining third position.
