Sovereign Connectivity: An Assessment of Current Capabilities and Future Demand – 2026
Growing geopolitical uncertainty and the need for secure, resilient communications are bringing satellite network sovereignty into sharper focus. As governments consider how to reduce reliance on foreign infrastructure and commercial providers, they face important choices about how much control they need and where partnerships can meet their requirements. The time is now to examine what sovereignty means across the satellite network stack, how countries can achieve it, and where evolving national priorities create opportunities for industry.
This study includes a framework to define and measure sovereignty, a country-level benchmarking exercise designed to compare stated ambitions, operational capabilities, and concrete funded initiatives, predictions as to how sovereignty strategies will likely evolve in the future, and what key trends in ground infrastructure and enabling hardware will be crucial enablers of sovereign connectivity.
