London. Valour Consultancy is pleased to announce the publication of its latest report, ‘Deep Dive: Offshore Energy – 2025′. This comprehensive study analyses the satellite connectivity requirements of offshore drilling, production, service, and support vessels. It offers in-depth insights into the key companies, vessel types, rigs, platforms, and the evolving oil and gas regions.
The offshore energy satellite connectivity market was worth approximately $542 million in 2024, increasing by 7 per cent from 2023. The sector was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the price of oil plummeting. The industry has since rebounded strongly, and projected connectivity opportunities are anticipated to increase in 2025 and 2026.
According to our report’s author, Joshua Flood: “Researching the offshore energy market, particularly understanding how each technology is deployed upon a rig or vessel, has been insightful. The market is complex, comprising many facets including drilling, production, construction, cable-laying, and seismic survey operations”
There are around 8,500 vessels, rigs and platforms active worldwide in 2024. Flood adds, “From a satellite connectivity perspective, the offshore energy market is the only application where GEO VSAT is not expected to decline in vessel subscriptions in the near-term. The nature, coverage, and levels of service of GEO VSAT connectivity make it a vital component of offshore communications.” However, LEO and MEO broadband services are also expected to gain much traction, offering faster bandwidth and lower latency. They will become mainstream components of energy companies’ connectivity portfolios, equating to a $4.1 billion market opportunity over the next ten years.
Valour Consultancy is a multi-award-winning provider of high-quality market intelligence and consultancy services. This is our first study focusing exclusively on offshore energy connectivity, published in June 2025. The research draws upon 25 in-depth interviews with organisations across the offshore energy value chain, including connectivity service providers, energy companies, technology firms, and hardware manufacturers. The study offers detailed insights into the market dynamics: drivers, inhibitors, technology, and market forecasts.
